Digital teaching creates creative solutions

The teachers are one of the professional groups that work to ensure that the children have as normal an everyday life as possible in an otherwise abnormal time. Håkon Leer Sandstad is, among other things, responsible for swimming lessons in the 4th grade at Vennersberg school. He has had to think outside the box to be able to teach the students.
- The swimming lessons are quite different, here I have chosen to offer myself and hopefully make it something the students think is fun, says Sandstad.

What kind of skills / education is required in your job?

Kindergarten teacher / Teacher education.

What are your core tasks?

I am a contact teacher for 18 students in 4th grade and work with the other teachers in the 4th grade to make the XNUMXth grade work as well as possible. I have the main responsibility for mathematics and swimming lessons at the step.

How has your workday been in recent weeks compared to normal conditions. Give a brief explanation of what a "normal" day looks like in these corona times?

A normal working day in these "corona times": I have kept the same routines as usual, and get up at 06:50. The work platform for the students is Showbie and we teachers work together in Teams. We teachers share experiences and talk together in the morning and throughout the day. The school day for the students is as usual between 08:20 -13: 20, and they work with MUST-SHOULD-CAN tasks in Showbie throughout the day. Between 11:00 - 11:30 every day we have a class discussion where students can chat together. We are three teachers who are available to the students throughout the school day. After the school day is over, new learning plans are made and we evaluate, share and collaborate with teachers in between. The swimming lessons are quite different, here I have chosen to offer myself and hopefully make it something the students think is fun.

Why is your job important and how do you / your company contribute to keeping society going?

As a teacher, I am important to many children. Vennersberg school is good at digital aids and the students have good digital skills. We are close to the students throughout the school day, the teachers show up every day by posting good morning and thank you for today videos to the students. We are available to students and parents throughout the day and provide feedback to students fairly immediately in their work.

Do you have any professional tips or advice that people should follow in these times?

Keep to the daily routines, circadian rhythm and physical activity every day. Wash your hands, keep your distance and take care of each other.

What would you say to others who are considering your career?

We need many good teachers in the future.

What is the best thing about working / living in the Kongsvinger region?

The Kongsvinger region has it all. Sports and cultural activities, nature and outdoor life and a good location in relation to the capital and airport. Working at Kongsvingerskolen is fantastic, good colleagues and wonderful children.
